good song

i was coming back from bulverde tonight and heard this on 92.1 new braunfels (an unbelievably good americana station). after i heard it, i thought, "wow...everything i've wanted to say for the past few months, but couldn't find the words."

have you ever felt like someone walked around in your head for awhile and captured something that you were going through lyrically? it's a powerful thing. after hearing this song, i feel like chris knight just met me at a dirty old truck stop on hwy 281. and in a dimly lit room and over a cup of black coffee, i poured my heart out to him; then he pulled out a guitar and wrote this song on the corner of a napkin.

good songwriters...they're better than any other vice.

all the memories of our good times
keep crowdin in my mind
but i'm counting on the bad times
to help me leave you behind
even though i said it's over
i'm really not that strong
i need something to keep me goin
when i'm gone

as much as i want to turn around
i gotta keep drivin on
the road to me forgetting you
is hard and it's long
when i remember how much i loved you
i just remember how you done me wrong
it's something to keep me going
when i'm gone

still got your photograph in my wallet
don't know why i don't throw it away
i use to take it out and look at you
to get me through the day
now i realize when i look in your eyes
i never really knew you at all
it's something to keep me going
when i'm gone

as much as i want to turn around
i gotta keep drivin on
the road to me forgetting you
is hard and it's long
when i remember how much i loved you
i just remember how you done me wrong
it's something to keep me going
when im gone

-chris knight, "something to keep me going"
